Trip the Light Fantastic: The Making of SuperStrip
Trip the Light Fantastic: The Making of SuperStrip follows a group of washed-up superheroes reinventing themselves in a nonprofit think tank for do-gooders. Challenged by the circularity of meeting culture, the unlikely supers discover that real-world problems are far more complex than singular forces of evil, and that having power is part of the problem. SuperStrip blends comic book graphics, sound effects, and immersive video to create an experience like none other—contemporary dance theater meets animated graphic novel.
Trip the Light Fantastic: The Making of SuperStrip was commissioned by and premiered at the Harris Theater in 2016 and the Pamela Crutchfield Dance Fund through the Imagine Campaign. Additional commissioning and residency support was provided by Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois through its 2015 Intensive Development Lab with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Further support for SuperStrip was provided through a creation grant and a residency grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, a project grant from the Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, and development and residency support from The Yard (Martha’s Vineyard) and Hope College.
